Classroom Management
To be a successful teacher you need to make sure that your classroom runs efficiently. This is something that is unique to each and every teacher. Through my time in the classroom, I found that if you have mutual respect between the teacher and the students your classroom management will be more effective. After all the teacher is learning just as much as the students.
I feel that the students should have a part in making the rules with you. They are the ones having to follow them, plus it gives them a feeling of ownership over them. In my eyes, it is important to have a set routine for your students! By doing this there won't be any questions about what they should be doing and when. It makes your class time run smoothly and efficiently. Plus, it gives you more time for FUN!!
Classroom Discipline
Sometimes even with the best classroom management students still need a little more guidance. I find that instead of calling them out on their actions it is more effective to subtly let them know that what they are doing isn't appropriate. Once you have a moment to talk to the student discuss with them why what they were doing wasn't acceptable. I find helping the student understand instead of just reprimanding them is more effective. Sometimes students don't know why they are doing something. With a little guidance it will help them grow as a person and student.
