Miss Madson
In the Community
Here are some of the things that I'm currently envolved with!
Technology Workshop
During my masters program I have gotten the chance to go into schools and present technology workshops to students. This is always a joy because students are so excited and engaged during these times. They love having the chance to learn something hands on that they didn't know they could do! Who doesn't want to play with a robot instead of sitting at a desk!
Children's Theatre
During my summers I spend time working with the Claytons Children's Theater. For a week out of the summer, I work with students between the ages of 5 and 18 to put on a musical in one week. This is always a highlight of my summers. The students are so passionate about their work and I always leave so proud of the hard work they put in!
Girl Scout Daisy Troop
While I was student teaching I heard that the local Girl Scout Daisy troop needed a leader. I decided that I would help the community by taking over the troop with my mother as co-troop leaders. This has been such a fun experience. The girls are always so eager to come in and see what we are working on. I love seeing them grow in their journey as a girl scout.
Empire Girls State
Another highlight of the summer is spending time at SUNY Brockport at Empire Girls State. This is a week-long program for high school junior girls. During the week the girls learn about the workings of the government and work to create the 51st state, Girls State. I love seeing the girls bloom during the week as I interact with them. It is a truly amazing experience.
St. Lawerence Elementary Fun Fair:
The St. Lawerence Fun Fair is a PTO sponsored event at the local elementary school. This is a carnival like event that students come to with their parents. I have volunteered at this event for 3 years now! My favorite year was the year I worked at the prize table. They would get so excited about picking out their prizes.
Adopt-A-Bear:
Adopt-A-Bear is an afterschool mentoring program to help students with tough homelives. During this program I work with two students who are in 3rd and kindergarten. I help them with their homework and spend time bonding by playing games. This is always a hightlight of my week.
